
The prostate is a walnut-sized gland located between the bladder and the penis. The prostate is just in front of the rectum. The urethra runs through the center of the prostate, from the bladder to the penis, letting urine flow out of the body.
Facts: The Prostate Gland:
- Is part of the genitourinary system, which is comprised of organs that
are involved with urination and sexual function in males. - Is about the size of a walnut.
- Is located in front of the rectum which is behind the base of the penis and
underneath the bladder (which collects and empties urine). - Surrounds the upper part of the urethra, which carries urine and semen out of the penis.
Makes the fluid that contains sperm called semen.
