Legislative Information

Legislative Information & Advocacy

This web page is dedicated to keeping the viewers informed about Prostate Cancer legislation going on in Sacramento and Washington and how you can become an advocate.

TO BE HEARD IS TO ADVOCATE
Have there been times when you would have liked to speak out on a subject or speak to someone in either the California Senate or Assembly or the U.S. Senate or House of Representatives?

The California Prostate Cancer Coalition is asking each Prostate Cancer Support Group to form an E-mail and/or Phone tree for this very purpose. Here is how it works:

E-MAIL TREE – Your support group names an E-Mail team leader to gather the E-Mail Addresses of all members in your group who would like to help. When something of importance comes up, the team leader sends an E-Mail to all on his list with an attachment that might be a sample letter. Those who receive the E-Mail, write their own comments or simply forward the attachment to the proper person (State Senator or Assemblyman/Assemblywoman or U.S. Senator or Representative) and in no time, your support group has made a statement which is Loud and Clear.

PHONE TREE – Having a phone tree for those without computers, means that your support group leader asks for those volunteers to give their phone number. (You probably will need a phone captain for each 5 phone numbers to make it easier for all concerned) When needed, the phone captain calls each member on his list and either sends him a sample letter or suggests what to say on his own. The member can then write or call the person he wants to contact.

Think what an impact we could have if every support group in California was heard from on a given subject. This is the art of advocating and it is so simple and easy to do
